Rhode Island Auditorium/Providence,RI/May 17,1969

"Lover Man"
"I Don't Live Today"
"Red House"
"Hear My Train A Comin'"
"Spanish Castle Magic"/"Sunshine of Your Love" (minor cut in drum solo)
"Foxy Lady"
"Purple Haze"
"Voodoo Child (Slight Return)"

time-63:00

About 1:30 of tuning precedes "Lover Man". Jimi introduces "Red House" as "American blues". The blues continue with "Hear My Train A Comin'". The intro lyrics on this one are sung by Jimi in an "old blues" fashion. This version contains some blistering guitar playing.

"Spanish Castle Magic" is dedicated to "plain-clothes policemen and other goofballs". Jimi teases a tiny bit of "Earth Blues" before Mitch steps in with a solo. This morphs into a "Sunshine of Your Love" jam before returning us to "Spanish Castle Magic".

"Purple Haze" begins immediately on the heels of "Foxy Lady". Jimi wishes "peace and happiness" to the crowd before finishing up with "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". An unaccompanied solo toward the end gives us a sneak preview of things to come at Woodstock.

This is an enjoyable above-average audience tape.
