Jimi greets the audience and asks for a minute to tune up. First up is the British National Anthem followed by a brief drum solo then "Sgt. Pepper's....". The final notes of the Beatles classic segue right into the intro of "Spanish Castle Magic".

Jimi has a bit of trouble recalling all of "All Along the Watchtower"'s lyrics. His guitar playing sounds strong enough,but he is having some difficulty controlling feedback. "Machine Gun" is dedicated to the soldiers in Birmingham,Bournemouth,London and Vietnam. At 21 minutes, this is easily the longest version of "Machine Gun".

Later in the set is a tasty version of "Red House" clocking in at 11 minutes. After "Dolly Dagger" comes the only stand-alone live version of "Midnight Lightning". The end of this song segues into the intro to "Foxy Lady" while Jimi thanks the crowd for the last 3 years. There are bad feedback problems in the first few minutes of this song. There are also radio voices coming through Jimi's amps. Perhaps because of these problems,Jimi steps out around the 4:20 mark and allows Billy and Mitch to fill in with a jam. Hendrix returns and finishes the song as usual.

The Cry of Love band plays 3 new tunes before launching into a trio of "oldies". The outro of "Purple Haze" contains some blistering playing before bleeding into the intro of "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". Jimi closes out this night (his last British show) with "In From the Storm".

This concert has been released in pieces for many years. In 2002,an official double CD of the show was released in excellent soundboard quality. A large chunk of the show is also available on video.

After Jimi chats a bit to the audience, he begins the wah-wah intro to "Straight Ahead". Next up is "Ezy Ryder". Jimi continues with the new tunes with "Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)". The audience sounds quite appreciative of songs that must have been entirely unfamiliar to them.

After a high energy "Spanish Castle Magic" Jimi slows the pace down with "Red House". This song is almost complete,but it cuts off with about one minute remaining.

This is a below average audience recording.

1st set
After an introduction by Chuck Wein, the Cry of Love band takes the stage in Maui. Jimi opts to open with "Spanish Castle Magic" to "check out everything and see what's happening". "Lover Man" keeps up the fast pace. After "Lover Man" is a bit of tape warble and then we find ourselves at the intro to "Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)" already in progress. This song segues directly into the start of "In From the Storm". (Apparently the first live version.)

"Foxy Lady" is dedicated to Jimi's friend Pat Hartley. A solid 8+ minute "Hear My Train A Comin'" slows down the pace a bit before the onslaught of a wild "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)". Mitch slides in with a quick solo after about 6 minutes. This leads into the closers of "Fire" and "Purple Haze".

2nd set
This part of the recording begins with "Dolly Dagger" already in progress. The end of "Dagger" slows down into a delicious take on "Villanova Junction Blues". This song segues right into the start of "Ezy Ryder".

Jimi slows the pace down with some "blues to the Sun called 'Red House'". After "Freedom" the tape skips to "Beginnings" (a.k.a. "Jam Back at the House") already in progress. This leads to some exploratory jamming which bleeds into "Straight Ahead". At its conclusion we get an ultra-mellow instrumental version of "Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)".  Jimi switches gears and goes into a quick take of a "Midnight Lightning" jam which seems to cut and bring us to another jam on "Race With the Devil". Mitch steps in with a solo here before Jimi steers into "Stone Free". This segues into 11 seconds of "Hey Joe" before reprising "Stone Free".

Both sets are available as highly enjoyable soundboard recordings. Apparently the drums didn't record properly at the show,so Mitch re-recorded his parts in a studio in the early 1970s. Audio and video footage of this show are available on MANY releases.

After about a minutes' worth of tuning,Jimi starts "Fire". Billy and Mitch are introduced before the band dives into "Message to Love". About 2:30 into the song Mitch jumps in with a quick solo.

"Lover Man" and "Freedom" precede an almost 10 minute "Red House".  Jimi then dedicates "Foxy Lady" to "that girl over there in the yellow underwear". "Machine Gun" features some manic soloing. The end of "Machine Gun" leads directly into the "Star Spangled Banner"/"Purple Haze" duo.

The tape then fades into a 30 second drum solo (already in progress) which ends when Jimi starts playing "Hear My Train A Comin'". This version features bits of "Midnight Lightning" a.k.a. "Keep On Groovin'".

The show ends with the band winding down "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" into a quiet bit which morphs into "Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)". The tape then cuts off after about 3 minutes.

This is a distant,below-average audience recording. There are also a few minutes of audience-shot video available from this show. This concert may interest Hendrix completists as it is the last time he played in his hometown of Seattle.

After a couple guitar strums,Jimi leaps into "Stone Free". As the song ends, news radio can be heard coming through the amps. "Fire" contains teases of "Outside Woman Blues", "Sunshine of Your Love" and "Satisfaction".

Next up is a blazing version of "Red House" which was released commercially on "The Jimi Hendrix Concerts". "Message to Love" ends with a tease of "I Can See Clearly Now". Jimi sings a bit of the Mighty Mouse theme before "All Along the Watchtower".

The end of "Ezy Ryder" segues into the National Anthem. Oddly,Jimi yells "Watch out for North Dakota" in the middle of it. A tease of "Auld Lang Syne" is played just before the jump into "Purple Haze". While Jimi is trying to dedicate "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" to his friends,the loud audience interrupts him. He responds with "F*ck you,then. Good night" before launching into an angry sounding version of the song.

This is mainly an enjoyable soundboard recording with bits and pieces patched in from audience sources. Parts of this show are available on different video sources.

After introducing  Mitch and Billy,Jimi dives into a blazing "Fire".  "Spanish Castle Magic" contains a tease of "The Breeze and I" starting around the 2:47 mark. A 7+ minute "Red House" slows down the pace temporarily.

"Hear My Train A Comin'" is a deep trip into The Blues. Jimi uses his Uni-Vibe pedal to great effect in this tune. "All Along the Watchtower" features some stellar playing and slightly hesitant singing by Jimi.

After looking to the future with "Freedom",Jimi takes a step into the past with crowd favorites "Foxy Lady","Purple Haze" and "Hey Joe". He tricks the crowd by playing a quick snatch of the National Anthem just before "Purple Haze". "Hey Joe" features a very pretty flamenco-like intro.

Toward the end of "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" Jimi plays some tortured-sounding intense guitar. The end of "Stone Free" bleeds into the "Star Spangled Banner" (for real this time). At its conclusion,the National Anthem segues into "Straight Ahead". Billy,Mitch and Jimi wrap up this show,unusually, with an instrumental version of "Hey Baby (New Rising Sun)".

The audience can be heard clapping along to the opening "Stone Free". Jimi keeps the energy high with "Lover Man"and a blazing "Red House".

Jimi seems to "reward" the audience's appreciation for the newer "Freedom" with  "Foxy Lady" and "Purple Haze". Unusually,the final "Purple Haze" solo bleeds into the "Star Spangled Banner". Next up,the audience is clapping again to "All Along the Watchtower".

The "Message to Love" solo contains a tease of the "Stepping Stone" melody.  A nice late-in-the set "Spanish Castle Magic" shows up just before "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" wraps up this fine concert.

This audience recording hovers between average and above average sound quality. It's a surprisingly concise tape in that pretty much the whole show is there in under one hour.
